Apple confirms white iPhone 4 launch

Apple on Wednesday finally confirmed the launch of the white iPhone 4. The long-delayed hue should be in stores on April 28 in GSM (AT&T) and CDMA (Verizon) models. Features and prices stay the same, starting at $199 for a 16GB version and $299 for 32GB.

White versions will be first available in 28 countries, including Canada and the US as well as most of Europe, Japan, China in both the mainland as well as Hong Kong and Taiwan, Australia, and New Zealand. More will get it soon.

In the US, the color will be available through the online Apple Store as well as AT&T, Verizon, and some resellers.

The company briefly acknowledged the long delays for the white iPhone 4, which was unveiled in June 2010 but delayed to July, then the fall, and eventually this spring. "We appreciate everyone who has waited patiently while we've worked to get every detail right," Senior VP of Worldwide Product Marketing Phil Schiller said.

No official explanation has ever been given for the delay, but Apple is known to have had issues with the consistency and reliability of the white paint mix it first intended to use. Plans may not have come back on track until a new Japanese technique made for a reliable process. Apple is rumored to have been willing to offer the white iPhone 4 knowing that a new iPhone wouldn't be ready until September.

    The image.....

Is it a stock image or a new one given to the press by apple? I'm pretty sure the ambient light sensor and proximity sensor window is a dotted grid, not a totally clear open slot shape...
