ViewSonic gTablet gets Amazon price drop

ViewSonic hoped to push sales of the gTablet through to a combination of two factors. The first is a price drop at Amazon down to $280, and the other is that it's been overclocked to a 1.4GHz clock speed. XDA member pershoot boosted the chip from its standard rating of 1GHz by loading CyanogenMod 7. The 10.1-inch tablet runs on Android 2.2 and has Wi-Fi along with 16GB of built-in memory.

The hack and overclocking process is detailed over on the XDA-Developers forum. Pershoot was apparently able to get as much as 1.6GHz out of the chip, but it was scaled down to 1.4GHz due to UV being applied.

The modified tablet returned a score of 57.657 on the Linpack benchmark, 3088 on Quadrant and 4433 on Smartbench.
