updated 08:45 pm EDT, Wed April 13, 2011

Features 'Songs That Shaped Rock and Roll'

An interactive exhibit at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum has been turned into an app for iOS devices by Sideways, Inc., who usually focus on creating mobile versions of print projects. The app showcases the "Songs That Shaped Rock and Roll" interactive exhibit at the museum, and focuses on a variety of artists, genres and influential songs from before and during the rock era in music, starting with the 1920s and carrying on through to 2006.

The app includes samples from more than 600 songs and is centered around slide shows that accompany the music from a specific decade. Users select a particular decade and then swipe through an album cover slideshow to select music. Users can listen to samples, purchase songs through iTunes or add them to a custom playlist within the app. Users can learn about the history of music in the 20th century from early recordings through to the eventual emergence of rock and roll music in the 50s and 60s and discover how it has evolved into the present day.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame app sells for $1.99 and requires iOS 3.2 or later. It is a universal app designed to work natively with the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad. It is available now at the iTunes App Store.
