Microsoft pushes out Office 2008 for Mac 12.2.9

updated 03:15 pm EDT, Wed April 13, 2011

Adds support for SkyDrive cloud storage

Microsoft has released a new version of Office 2008 for Mac, 12.2.9. The patch is mostly a maintenance update, fixing security vulnerabilities in Excel, PowerPoint and the suite as whole. It likewise copes with issues that can potentially trigger program crashes.

Entourage has been updated to correctly display conversation headers, specifically the accurate number of unread messages. PowerPoint has been tweaked to ensure that numbered lists show properly when a presentation is opened in Windows. Actual feature additions in the suite include support for Microsoft's SkyDrive cloud storage, and Forms Based Authentication, allowing compatibility with SharePoint.

The v12.2.9 patch requires Mac OS X 10.4.9, as well as a copy of Office 2008 already updated to Service Pack 1. The new download is 333.1MB. It can be obtained from Microsoft's website, or delivered directly via AutoUpdate.
