Paper, ink font comparisons, Growl support in v3

Monotype Imaging has launched an update to its font manager, FontExplorer X Pro 3. The software can manage, activate and organize existing font collections and find new fonts via an integrated store. Version 3 adds a feature, called a character toolbox, that shows available languages and can filter fonts for specific characters. The ability to compare fonts by paper or ink usage is new, while a transparent slideshow automatically overlays various fonts until the user sees the right look.

The latest release also introduces a new Quark 9 plug-in and a French localization. It can now organize Smart Sets in folders and generate ad hoc sets from the current font selection. Other major upgrades include an enhanced font scanner, Growl support and interface and functionality improvements.

The software requires Mac OS X 10.4 or higher. It costs $80 for a single license, with multiple-license discounts arriving at the 11-license level.
