Mobee intros inductive charging for Apple keyboard, trackpad

updated 07:30 am EDT, Tue April 12, 2011

Mobee unveils Magic Bar charger for Apple input

Mobee, best known for its Magic Mouse inductive charger, has expanded its charging to cover the rest of Apple's current input hardware. The Magic Bar uses the same inductive technique to charge Apple wireless input with a barrel-shaped battery area, including the Wireless Keyboard and the Magic Trackpad. The charger replaces the AA batteries altogether with a lithium-ion battery pack that needs only contact with the charging cradle to power up.

The charger is entirely USB-powered and serves as a cradle for the keyboard or trackpad while it's being replenished. Mobee believes the battery should be good for about 10 days of use and will top up in about six hours.

Pricing hasn't been handed out, although pre-orders are due to start on May 15 with the expectation of a late June release.

    Because

Changing your batteries every 6 months will take WAY more time than buying this, unpacking, connecting it all.

    Charging batteries every six months?

More like charging my mighty mouse batteries every 2 to 3 weeks after I have had the batteries for a year. The keyboard batteries do last longer, maybe 4 to 6 weeks. This device might be worth it just to avoid the hassle of changing batteries so often.
