iOS 4.3.2 to fix FaceTime, Verizon iPad 2 flaws, says source

updated 01:00 pm EDT, Mon April 11, 2011

Verizon iPhone update news still MIA

The iOS 4.3.2 update will, at a minimum, address a pair of critical problems that have arisen since v4.3 and v4.3.1, an Apple source informs. The first is with FaceTime, which has been suffering from freezes and out-of-place images suddenly appearing. The second relates to Verizon iPad 2s, which may have trouble connecting to the carrier's 3G network.

Also slated are security fixes in components like WebKit, and an assortment of more minor changes. Still unknown is whether the firmware will solve battery issues, or apply to Verizon iPhones, which have been stuck on iOS 4.2.6 since the device's launch window. iOS 4.3.2 is rumored to be going live in less than two weeks.

    Boeing v. Apple

Sunday I commended a friend who works for Boeing. I told him I was impressed with how quickly Boeing had diagnosed the Southwest fuselage problem, taken responsibility for it, and come up with a solution.

If only Apple would be as open and responsive as Boeing. How difficult is it to slap a current meter on an iPhone that's in a test jig and tell us, "Yes, you're right, 4.3 is sucking down batteries"? Then they could tell us the why and when the fix will be out. Or they could show evidence we're just imagining the problem.

Instead we run into a corporate stonewall broken only by occasional terse emails from Steve Jobs saying something like "Coming soon." Can't anyone but he talk to us?
