Insiders say iPad 3 plans too early to make 2011

Suppliers say iPad 3 not in cards for 2011

Component builders said late Monday that talk of an iPad 3 in the fall was wrong based on Apple's early plans. The company has reportedly provided a handful of details calling for a higher resolution display, but the details were at the "initial planning stage" and unlikely to show up at all in 2011. They told Digitimes they hadn't received any received any notices for production and had been seeing "strong" orders for the iPad 2 that cast doubt on a launch so soon.

The talk of an early revamp was likely just "wishful thinking and misreporting," they said.

What would be involved in the display wasn't mentioned. The tipsters floated the possibility of an AMOLED display, but they noted that it wouldn't be in Apple's interest to go with the technology. Samsung controls AMOLED production almost exclusively and could potentially wield this against Apple by holding back on supplies or raising prices beyond what was necessary. Current iPads use LCDs made by LG Display, Samsung, and possibly other firms, reducing the possible points of failure. AMOLED is also expensive at large sizes and could be too costly for Apple's goals.

A 2012 release would be more consistent with Apple's roughly year-long intervals between iOS device upgrades as well as a need to wait for the ideal technology. Rumors persist of a 2048x1536 panel, but this would need both cheaper displays as well as enough processor and graphics performance to drive the new resolution. Most of the industry, including Apple, should be going to quad-core processors and graphics at the high end in early 2012.

    Taiwanese 'pump and dump'

There was a securities firm that openly stated that the iPad would be delayed until April or beyond back in February or just a few weeks before the iPad 2 shipped. As soon as it was announced, the component maker's shares all dropped. Who scooped it up? That same securities firm.

The same script is being used again here. Nothing new and no one goes to jail. 'Pump and dump' is a daily occurrence in Taiwan.

    iPad 3 should definitely have...

composite material instead of Aluminium. Priority number 1.

If composites are going to significantly drive

up the cost of the iPad, then I don't think Apple will do it. Apple needs to stay competitive with the rest of the industry. So, unless there is so new, cheaper and faster way to build composite cases, I doubt if it will happen.

The securities firms get away with too much nonsense with their fabrications and nothing is ever done about it.

    News/Blog sites share the blame...

For carrying and promoting the rumor in the first place without any logical analysis of why it wouldn't happen. Fact is there is/was not any financial reason for Apple to produce an iPad 3 this fall. None. Just because a rumor seems possible, doesn't make it plausible.

Any good writer/analyst would have just debunked the rumor and let it go at that. Because any company with a product that is selling like gangbusters would not shoot itself in the foot (i.e. waste a years worth of R&D expenses that are generally amortized over the life of the product) and introduce an upgrade a few months after a wildly successful product was introduced. Of course if that product was not selling at all, then you would expect it to be changed/upgraded as soon as an upgrade could be engineered.

It would be great if more of the news/blog sites would actually comment on, analyze and debunk or uphold these rumors that they publish instead of just publishing them to make sure they publish what every other news/blog site publishes. They are sort of saying: "here's info that other blogs are carrying so we'll carry it too!" instead of "this rumor is going around, here's why we think it's c***/possible".

    yearly update

i don't know why people keep putting out rumors that apple's going to release another ipad within the same year. its an ipod touch on steroids. both the ipods and iphone only get updated ONCE a year, why would the ipad be any different? especially when they sell them EASILY from launch till the next launch
