Analyst claims iPhone 5 production only due in September

Analyst thinks iPhone 5 to be built in September

Avian Securities in a research note on Monday claimed that the still-rumored decision to move the iPhone 5 past WWDC could see production start even later than thought. A conversation with a key part supplier convinced the research group that the new model would only be in production from September. Since Apple usually needs time to build up supply, this could mean a launch only in "very late" 2011 or even in early 2012.

The analyst group also said it had heard of a rumored much cheaper iPhone in teh chedule, but they didn't know what hardware it would have or when it would ship. Apple has traditionally shied away from making a different form factor and has instead cut the price and storage on an older model.

Such claims are difficult to corroborate and might be disputed by Apple's own WWDC promises. It usually shows a future version of iOS only a few months before it goes public. If true, Apple could use its usual September media event to launch any new iPhone.

Whatever the timing, signs have surfaced of some should come along, including a dual-core A5 chip and what will likely be an eight-megapixel Sony camera.
