Sync When Available option syncs mobile macs
Econ Technologies has launched updates to its file-sync software titles, ChronoSync 4.2 and ChronoAgent for Mac 1.2. ChronoSync works with files and folders, syncing between folders on a Mac, multiple Macs, Macs and PCs and external drives. It essentially serves as a sync utility for folders located on any mountable source. The synchronizations can be scheduled and the software will automatically mount available volumes as needed.
Version 4.2 adds trial sync support, allowing users to preview what will be synced before the action takes place, with options for comparing files and controlling files on each target. Running the trial then performing a sync allows the software to display a time estimate on the progress bar.
Other new features include Retry on Errors, which relaunches the sync operation if there are errors on the first run, while Sync Limits specifies how many syncs can occur in a given time period. Also new is the scheduling method When Independent Agent Becomes Available -- it watches for remote ChronoAgents to become available for a sync. Numerous bugfixes are also in the mix.
ChronoAgent works in tandem with ChronoSync to facilitate remote mounting, bypassing filesharing to give full access to a remote volume, eliminating the need to use AFP or SMB. The new version has the ability to schedule ChronoSync Container Documents using its Sync When Available option, which allows for backups of mobile Macs when they eventually reconnect to the network. There are also bugfixes and significant performance enhancements in v1.2.
Both software titles run on Macs as far back as Power Mac G3 models, up to the latest Intel Macs, and requires Mac OS X 10.4 or higher. ChronoSync costs $40 and ChronoAgent is $10. Both are available in 5-, 10- and 25-license packs at substantial discounts.
