Video-monitoring app full of new features
Divergent Media will be previewing ScopeBox 3.0 at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) show in Las Vegas next week, showing off the latest version of their video-monitoring and direct-to-disk capture and analysis software. The company will be giving hands-on demos and Q&A sessions at their booth (SL-10811) in the South Lower Hall. The new version introduces an all-new video processing pipeline, fail-safe capture and live editing functionality, and a new, dramatically lower price.
New in ScopeBox v3 is the Adaptive Kernel Engine (AKE), a brand new video-processing pipeline that allows the program to customize the processing load, fine-tuning it for the computer, the video source, palette roster and bit depth. The AKE is optimized for both Intel and PPC Macs, maximizing performance on either system.
The AKE also allows for tools like alerts, envelopes and synthesized composite waveforms to be displayed -- which previously required external hardware to accomplish. Operators can now keep an eye on signal while juggling multiple sources, and alerts will auto-generate timecode annotation notes when threshold values are detected. The notes can be exported as lists, or as editable markers for later review.
ScopeBox now also sports fail-safe capture for its direct-to-disk recording ability. Previously, a problem during capture resulting in corrupt files that required expensive data-recovery efforts to salvage. Now, the program constantly "flushes" complete QuickTime data to disk, so if recording is stopped for any reason, the file on the disk is valid and playable. Live edit can be enabled on most captures, meaning the movie file can be imported into third-party edit systems while still being recorded.
Divergent Media have also announced that they are lowering the price of ScopeBox beginning immediately -- reducing it to $100 from its former price of $700. Current users of ScopeBox 2.x will receive a free upgrade to v3. The beta program for ScopeBox v3 will begin on April 18th, with users added in stages in the following days.
