Nokia to hold April 12 Symbian event

Nokia has sent out teasers for a special event on April 12. The gathering at 10AM European time (4AM Eastern) will "discover what's new with Symbian smartphones," implying a hardware launch. MadForTech's copy hasn't been completely verified but uses the new font Nokia began using after signalling the transition to Windows Phone.

The company has remained mostly silent on its Symbian plans in the past several months and had raised fears it would quit Symbian early. Few candidates have surfaced for what Nokia would bring out at a special event, but the E6 pro phone is a strong candidate and may be joined by the X7, a gaming phone dropped for AT&T but likely coming to other carriers and countries.

The first Windows Phone hardware isn't expected to show until early 2012.
