Nokia finishes publishing Symbian source code

Nokia puts Symbian source code online again

Nokia said it has finished reposting the Symbian source code online for company-supported and independent developers. Available at Nokia's site, the Symbian source code is back after Nokia took down access in mid-December after closing the Symbian Foundation. During that period, Nokia gave out access to the code only on request.

Once finished, the site will offer documentation and tools as well as the Symbian source code. All the necessary files will be uploaded over the next few weeks, Nokia's head of open source, Petra Söderling, assured on Friday. Those who want to get the source code need to register with Nokia.

Potential contributors to the platform can now do so through the Contact Us button on Nokia's website to cut down on the number of submissions Nokia previously faced.

While Nokia has shifted its strategy to Windows Phone, it will continue to support and update Symbian, but no longer do so on a release basis. [via AllAboutSymbian]
