Kyocera rumored entering tablets with Katsura gaming slate

Kyocera Katsura pops up as rumored tablet

Kyocera may be the next to jump into the tablet game based on a rumor emerging late Friday. Supposedly called the Katsura ("tree'), the slate would have a wider aspect ratio than most and bears a very basic similarity to the Huawei S7 Slim. Details of the innards were slim, but Android Community's claimed photos showed a very elaborate embossed back pattern likely calling on Kyocera's Japanese roots.

The design would be a gaming tablet that would become a tablet equivalent to the Xperia Play. Other than its running Android, though, little else was given out.

Katsura's existence is still very much an unknown and comes from an untested Eastern European source; as such, the rumor is far from confirmed. The photos aren't superficially discreditable, however, and such a move could make sense for Kyocera. It remains one of the name-brand Android phone builders to so far stay out of tablets and may look to get involved in a way that avoids duplicating the efforts of bigger rivals like HTC, LG, Motorola, and Samsung.

Apple's iPad line has so far been the leader in tablet gaming but also hasn't had a direct Android equivalent.
