Pentax NC mirrorless camera spotted with vintage design

updated 08:55 pm EDT, Thu March 31, 2011

NC-1 said to be smallest mirrorless camera

Corroborating earlier rumors surrounding a mirrorless Pentax camera, several press photos have finally surfaced. The images are tied to the model NC-1, which is said to represent one of the smallest mirrorless cameras to arrive on the market, while the company is also alleged to be working on a second mirrorless system with a larger build.

A Mirrorless Rumors report suggests the smaller NC system centers around a 1/2.33-inch sensor, a size typically built into compact point-and-shoots, with 14-megapixel resolution and support for HD movie recording. Two lenses will allegedly be available at launch, including a prime 8.5mm f/1.9 option (~47mm equivalent), and a zoom 5-15mm f/2.8-4.5 variant (28-80mm equivalent).

The second mirrorless system, which has yet to surface in leaked pictures, is said to integrate the standard APS-C sensor format common to larger DSLRs. Users will allegedly be able to connect any K-mount lenses to the larger body.

Pentax has yet to confirm to existence of either mirrorless system. Pricing information and launch dates remain unknown, though the NC-1 is expected to arrive in late May or June.
