Xperia acro an enhanced version of Xperia arc

Sony Ericsson has leaked one of its own upcoming smartphones, the Xperia acro. It was spotted among as series of its new phones displayed in its Sony Ericsson PC Companion software tool that ships with its new smartphones. In the image embedded below, it can be discerned that the phone is very similar to the recently released Xperia arc. According to the Xperia blog, the phone appears to be a minor revision of the Xperia arc that is designed to address shortcomings in that model.

The Xperia acro is said to add NFC capability for use with Japan's FeliCa NFC payment system, a TV-tuner for Japan's digital over-the-air 1Seg standard, and an infrared port. There are also two versions of the phone with one likely to be a GSM version for use on the NTT DoCoMo with the other a CDMA version for use on the KDDI network.

Otherwise, the phone is thought to share the same features as the Xperia arc, including its 1GHz single-core Snapdragon SOC, a 4.2-inch display and an 8.1MP Exmor R rear camera. It is expected to launch in Japan between May and June this year, but looks likely to remain a Japan only phone.
