Extended hours likely meant to cope with iPad 2
A grand opening for the first Dresden, Germany Apple Store is scheduled for this Thursday, Apple has announced. The shop is located at the Altmarkt-Galerie, and on Thursday will be open for extended hours of 8AM to 10PM. Similar extensions are planned for Friday and Saturday; Friday hours will run from 9:30AM to 10PM, while Saturday hours will stretch from 9:30AM to midnight.
Beginning next week, standard hours will shrink to between 9:30AM and 9PM Monday through Saturday. Apple is likely organizing the extra shopping hours to cope with an influx of iPad 2 buyers. The tablet launched in Germany just last Friday, and is still in extremely short supply; online orders are only scheduled to ship in three to four weeks. An Apple Store may be the only way of getting an iPad sooner.
Germany is lacking in Apple Stores next to countries such as Canada, the US and the UK. The Dresden outlet will only be Germany's fifth, joining ones in Hamburg, Frankfurt, Munich and Oberhausen. Apple is however said to be working on a second Hamburg location, and its first for the capital city of Berlin.
