AT&T slashes Windows Phone 7 prices again in new sale

updated 03:10 pm EDT, Mon March 28, 2011

ATT cuts WP7, Captivate, Curve 3G prices in promo

AT&T kicked off another promo on Monday that hinted at lingering issues for Windows Phone 7 sales. Both the LG Quantum and Samsung Focus have dropped to $50 on contract for the sale. The move helps clear a path for the HTC HD7s but follows a pattern where both the carrier and third parties like Amazon have singled out AT&T WP7 phones for heavy discounts.

The discounts otherwise focus on phones that have been on the market for considerably longer or were already low-cost. The BlackBerry Curve 3G is down to $30, while the BlackBerry Torch and the Samsung Captivate cost $50 and $100 on contract, respectively. The Android and BlackBerry devices are expected to get replacements in the next few months like the Samsung Infuse 4G or BlackBerry Torch 2, but no such sequels have yet emerged for the Focus or Quantum.

All of the affected current phones are on sale for a "limited time," AT&T said.

With the exception of the iPhone, AT&T doesn't normally break down unit numbers and has made it difficult to gauge the success of other platforms. Apple remains its top-selling smartphone provider, however. The carrier has said WP7 sales were encouraging, but the repeated sales have raised suspicions that they aren't moving in significant numbers relative to Android or the iPhone.

Windows = Not for this generation

I think with the exception of XBox, these newer generations look at Windows as the "old" OS, and view Apple and Android as part of what's "new".

MS should get off the kick of calling everything "Windows". How well do you think the XBox would have done if they had put Windows in the name? WBox? WindowsBox? XWindowsGameCenter?

Keeping the XBox name simple was the smartest marketing MS has done in the last 10 years.

Can't Imagine Why They Aren't Selling

Just look at the gorgeous interface! (Must be an older photo, though, since it's still sporting it's holiday red and green color scheme.)

And how about that beautiful Calendar tile? (I realize they didn't have space to include minor details like the name or the abbreviation of the name of the current month. Innovative designers must make difficult choices.)

It's time for a phone to save us from the phone designed to save us from our phones ... wait ... says the public ... we already have those.

I think I can imagine why now.

    Interesting

Either nobody wants WP7 phones or MS is paying to have them sold at a loss to undercut competition.

    Name is not the problem...

snails pace development is. Microsoft has to leapfrog the competition and at the current pace they are falling very short.
