NVIDIA teases GeForce GTX 590 in video for Thursday intro

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 590 gets Thursday launch, tease

NVIDIA in a quick video teaser (below) gave a hint of the GeForce GTX 590 along with its release date. The company wouldn't give direct clues other than that it's the highest-performing graphics chipset yet, but it did show Crysis 2 running smoothly in the background as a likely sign of how well it would run. The project was two years in the making, NVIDIA's Tom Peterson said.

At the end, the teaser mentions to check back on Thursday at 6AM Pacific (9AM Eastern) for full details. The date virtually confirms an embargo lifting at the same time and a slew of reviewers and stores confirming the GTX 590's existence.

Earlier leaks have the GTX 590 representing the latest dual-chip board from NVIDIA, with two GPUs roughly equivalent to the GTX 580 giving it a major leap in speed. It should have 1,024 visual processing cores in total and 3GB of RAM. Performance relative to the AMD Radeon HD 6990 isn't known, but NVIDIA usually fares better at the high end. AMD's chief advantages are more parallel effects processing and an extra 1GB of RAM.
