AnyData outs AMD120 and AMD810 Android tablets

AnyData has used CTIA to unveil its own entries into tablets with an unusually high-end angle. The seven-inch AMD120 and AMD810 will both use dual-core Snapdragon processors. An AMD120 will run the 1.2GHz APQ8060 found in the HP TouchPad; the AMD 810 will move up to the 1.5GHz MSM8660.

Either will have a wide SVGA display, Bluetooth 2.1, dedicated GPS, and a microSDHC card slot, but the two will also diverge sharply in networking and the choice of OS. The AMD120 as the starter will have just Wi-Fi along with Android 2.3, with an upgrade to Android 3.0 coming later. AMD810 models will often be tied to carriers and will support EVDO Revision A-based 3G and Android 3.0 from the start. Owners of the top tablet will get hotspot creation.

AnyData is pitching the tablets to customers, most of all carriers, and doesn't have immediate ship dates.

We had the opportunity to spot the tablets on the CTIA show floor. Either is generic-looking, though AnyData's aim as a white label likely means this is deliberate; it promised multiple colors and finishes, so it could go to a more upscale design if a company asks for it. The designs we saw weren't working prototypes. Not surprisingly, AnyData wasn't willing to say whether it had any deals, but the tablets are designed to be considerably cheaper than the Galaxy Tab or the iPad 2, and EVDO Rev A suggests it wants a US carrier like Sprint or more likely a regional carrier such as US Cellular.
