Sprint to try Android 2.2 for Epic 4G, fix others

An uncovered memo has confirmed that Sprint is on the verge of retrying its botched Epic 4G update to Android 2.2 and will have some extra fixes in store for the Transform and its version of the Galaxy Tab. The Epic 4G upgrade should be pushed over a four-day period, starting from March 21, with both the promised improvements and fixes for the SD card troubles that cut it short earlier. Among the extras spotted by BGR for the 2.2 update are the expected Bluetooth improvements, the GPS fixes common to all Galaxy S phones, and Flash 10.1 support; Sprint ID is also coming as an option.

The other updates are minor and would also go live March 21. While it inaccurately claims that the Transform needs an update to 2.2, the 3G Android slider is getting Swype's keyboard for touch-only use as well as 3G hotspot support. Improvements are also coming to Sprint ID, the Sprint Zone, and Google syncing.

Galaxy Tab owners get the lightest fixes but would see Sprint ID added in as well as a download meter to check 3G usage.

Many of the updates are coming months after Android 2.3. It's not clear if or when any of Sprint's 2010 phones will get 2.3.
