HTC Thunderbolt now shipping, but without Skype feature app

updated 06:15 am EDT, Thu March 17, 2011

Thunderbolt marketing materials changed

The HTC Thunderbolt is shipping without the promised Skype feature application for making video calls. It is not known whether the marquee feature will eventually make its way on to the handset at all. A recent memo issued to Best Buy employees is alleged to have stated that, "The Skype feature will not be available on the HTC Thunderbolt." The news follows the release of Verizon's demo app for the Thunderbolt that promoting its features, but without the Skype app.

As Droid-life reports, all the marketing material for the HTC Thunderbolt, on both HTC's website and Verizon's have now been changed with the Skype logo and application now absent. The Skype function was originally intended to have the application deeply embedded in the Sense contact list to give users quick access to friends through Skype.

While it initially looked as though the negotiations between Verizon and Skype may have not been finalized, it now appears that they might have collapsed all together.

The device is now shipping for $250 from Verizon and $180 from Amazon.
