Sprint rolls out smaller, eight-user Overdrive Pro 3G/4G

updated 07:35 pm EDT, Thu March 17, 2011

Sprint Overdrive Pro official for Sprint

Sprint took a second turn at its mainstay pocketable 4G router on Thursday with the Overdrive Pro. The 3G and 4G hybrid hotspot now supports as many as eight devices on WiMAX, up from five. Speed has improved as well; the Sierra Wireless-made hardware now starts up or shuts down about 35 percent faster.

Sizes have improved in either direction. The Overdrive Pro is overall smaller but simultaneously has a 45 percent larger screen that's also easier to read.

The router will have a quick turnaround and is being shipped to get out of the way of larger news at CTIA. It goes on sale Sunday, March 20, and will cost $50 after both a $50 rebate and signing a two-year data contract.
