iOS 4.3 update triggers graphics glitches on iPod touches

Only some interface elements affected


Some iPod touch owners have been suffering graphic glitches since the introduction of the iOS 4.3 update, talk on Apple's support forums reveals, backed up experiences at MacNN. Affected people will see "snowy," corrupted and/or blinking graphics appear in the iOS interface. Making the bug especially odd is that it only affects some portions of the interface, such as status icons and pop-up notifications. It is also inconsistent, showing at some times but not others.

There is so far no solution to the problem. Rebooting a Touch, tapping the screen or pressing the Sleep or Home buttons several times may potentially eliminate glitches, but only temporarily. Restoring a device appears to have no permanent impact, at least long as the backup is still based on iOS 4.3.

    Just 4th generation?

    My 3rd generation iPod touch does not experience these issues, so it's probably a newer graphics incompatibility. I actual witnessed a performance and stability boost upon upgrading to 4.3.

    I would have thought that Apple would have extensively tested the update on their newest device, not a past generation.

    on my 4th Gen touch

    It happened on a pop up notification for an alarm and just now the battery icon went weird when I plugged in the touch to charge.
