iPad 2 shipping times continue growing to 4-5 weeks

Mimics iPhone 4, iPad 1 scarcity

Shipping times for the iPad 2 from the online Apple Store have extended still further, out to between four and five weeks. The delay is impacting all models, regardless of color, storage capacity or connection options. Times have been on a rapid increase since Friday's launch, when they were initially just three to five days.

By Saturday waits had already grown to between three and four weeks. The current situation represents some of the worst scarcity the iPad has ever seen, rivaling even the launch of the first-generation tablet or the iPhone 4. Retail outlets may be the best option for shoppers in the short term, particularly as some Apple Stores are said to be selling new stock today.

Why have any of you correlated the announcements of extended shipping times with the timeline of the Japan disaster announcements? Over selling may be a cover for more desperate supply link problems.

and there goes the Europe launch date March-25

As with the iPad 1, they will push back the Europe launch date a month or two.
This is annoying: first promise something, but not keep the promise.
I would like some iPads trickle to Europe on the promised date.

The wait times can be very telling, considering Apple is supposed to currently have a 3 million/month manufacturing run rate for the iPad 2. That is the least they could produce per month if they want to hit "their" target of some 40 million iPads this year.

    @ starwarrior:

I don't believe any of the components are from Japan, most of them are from Korean suppliers.

    @ macdan_ch:

The long wait times in the US may actually be due to the European launch being factored in.
