Samsung shows 46-inch transparent TV
At CeBIT in Taiwan, Samsung brought out a new form of its transparent LCDs with a 46-inch prototype TV set. ITProPortal took a look at the unique set, whose 1080p panel doubles as a solar cell to power the device. It also has a ten-finger multi-touch interface.
A commercial application, although likely on a smaller scale, will include a fridge, according to a spokesperson at the booth. The company may develop even larger screen sizes using the technology, up to as much as 65 inches.
Other technical details of the screen haven't been revealed, so it remains to be seen how the display will compare to traditional ones, which will also be cheaper. The prototype did have a few issues, however, including a non-functional touchscreen.
A 19-inch transparent AMOLED prototype was also shown off last year by Samsung, though when it will be commercially available hasn't been revealed.
