RIM makes BlackBerry App World development easier to start

updated 08:35 pm EST, Mon March 7, 2011

ID notarization dropped from program requirements

RIM has worked to streamline the enrollment process for the App World developer program, following complaints from a number of users. The company initially required applicants to submit notarized proof of identity, however the terms have been relaxed to accept a faxed or e-mailed driver's license copy without notarization.

"We learned that [the notarization requirement] has become a pain point for some developers," said RIM's VP of developer relations, Tyler Lessard, in a recent blog post. "So we have been working behind the scenes to remove this barrier."

Drivers who do not wish to use their driver's license must still submit an alternative form of identification with notarization, while businesses still need to send separate documentation such as businesses licenses or articles of incorporation.
