Archos plans high-end tablet for late summer

Archos in remarks at CeBIT said it was planning a new high-end tablet for the IFA show in Berlin. Keeping in step with a pattern set last year, it would complement the budget Arnova tablets from this past week with premium alternatives late this summer. It didn't hint to Tablet Blog what that would entail.

The high-end model is very likely to carry Android 3.0 to stay competitive. Whether or not it remains stock isn't as clear. Archos likes to customize its install and was willing to initially go without the Android Market in favor of its own store, but the new OS would save Archos the trouble of writing tablet-sized apps. It typically competes most on price and the variety of hardware features.

A Windows 7 tablet was also launched last, although most consider Archos' Android tablets the more popular. Prices for Archos tablets usually top off at either 300 euros or $350 US. [via Netbook News]
