Microsoft fixed WP7 update produces new errors
Microsoft's promises of a remedied Windows Phone 7 update may have been premature as early reports from users have shown widespread problems. Samsung Focus and Omnia 7 users are getting a failure late into the update with an 800705B4 error code. It isn't bricking phones as consistently as before, but some have reported needing to restore the phone and having to ignore the update.
The company's WP7 Twitter account has acknwoledged the problem and that Microsoft is looking into a solution. Its cause, or an estimated timeframe for a fix, isn't known.
A second failure is a significant embarrassment for Microsoft and could create problems for the NoDo update adding copy-and-paste text. The upgrade was promised in early March and needs the new update as prep work underneath, but any sustained problems for Samsung phones could lock them out entirely where Dell, HTC and LG phones would upgrade right away. Android has occasionally had bugs with over-the-air updates, such as the Epic 4G's flaw, but has rarely if ever had problems that rendered the phone unusable. [via WPCentral]
