Verizon's HTC Trophy has CDMA and GSM, may wait until June

updated 08:15 am EST, Fri March 4, 2011

HTC Trophy for Verizon is dual mode, due in June

The HTC Trophy for Verizon has been spotted again offering an anticipated dual-mode feature but might not ship for some time. A snapshot of the cellular settings has shown direct references to both CDMA and GSM phone networks as well as the presence of a SIM card slot. WPCentral's photos would make it the first CDMA/GSM combo device using Windows Phone 7 and would help Verizon customers stay linked outside of North America.

It may not ship for some time. In spite of showing up in seemingly complete form and a widely rumored late March launch, it might not be ready in practice until June, or eight months after the GSM-only version first arrived in Europe. A prototype shot may have supported this since it was using a 7.0.7355 version of NoDo, not the 7.0.7389 build found on the Arrive at Sprint. "Corporate partners" are also reportedly still testing the Trophy and thus wouldn't be ready to go live anytime soon.

When it ships, the Verizon Trophy should have the same specs as a high-end version of the original, with 16GB of built-in storage, a five-megapixel camera and a 1GHz Snapdragon chip. It will mostly add Verizon-specific but removable apps for accounts and possibly pre-bundled apps like Slacker Radio. Its age may help keep the price down if it ships mid-year.
