CTIA VP alludes to Galaxy Tab 8.9 plan

CTIA VP Rob Mesirow alluded to the probable introduction of the Galaxy Tab 8.9 at the association's spring show in new remarks on Thursday. He expected there to be a "significant" tablet introduction that would likely be Samsung's mid-size, Android 3.0-loaded slate. His only clue to PCMag was that the theme of the show was invariably "Android, Android, Android," in part because Apple would never show.

Microsoft would also make Windows Phone 7's presence felt at the show, but Mesirow didn't expect the biggest impact until the fall CTIA show, often located in San Francisco. "It'll be moving into the fall show in a much bigger way," he said.

Only Samsung and Sprint have so far committed to major events at spring CTIA, which takes place in Orlando late this month, and only Samsung has given any clues as to what might show. The Galaxy Tab 8.9 is virtually certain, but apart from its screen size and choice of OS, little is known about it. Most other companies due to show tablets will have already shown their cards at the earlier CES or Mobile World Congress trade shows and may mostly be showing finished versions or variants, like a Wi-Fi Xoom.

HP may also show updated versions of its in-progress webOS smartphones, such as the Pre3 and Veer, or the TouchPad tablet.
