ASUS MeMO tablet gets Android 3 and MeMic handset

ASUS' MeMO tablet has been fully detailed with both its full hardware details and software plans lined up. The seven-inch Android 3.0 slate is now known to have a 1.2GHz Snapdragon inside capable of handling 1080p video and should support four bands for its HSPA+ 3G, including the 850MHz and 1,900MHz bands for North America. Versions of the tablet will come with up to 64GB of storage, and it should be mated with both a back five-megapixel camera and a front 1.2-megapixel camera for chats.

The company at CeBIT quietly confirmed that the tablet would have Android 3.0 by the time it ships in June and that the processor choice will have played a part. Snapdragon processors aren't yet fully supported, ASUS said. Every Android 3.0 tablet fully detailed until now has been using an NVIDIA Tegra 2, implying that it was the only chip properly supported in hardware for the initial wave.

Company officials also mentioned that certain configurations of the MeMO should come with a Bluetooth handset, the MeMic. The companion is intended for making phone or VoIP calls without having to use the MeMO itself. It should also double as a remote control and a wireless music streaming gateway.

ASUS hasn't given out pricing or the countries that will get the MeMO and MeMic, but the inclusion of North America-ready 3G hinted that AT&T and most Canadian carriers could either sell the tablet directly or else support an unlocked version.
