HTC Thunderbolt pushed to March 10, Trophy in late March

updated 10:00 am EST, Fri February 25, 2011

HTC Thunderbolt due March 10 as Trophy follows

HTC's two main phones for Verizon in the winter may not ship until much later than expected. A coordinated leak to Electronista and other sites has claimed the Thunderbolt isn't scheduled until March 10. The timing would put the 4G Android phone about a month back from when it was originally expected and could represent another of multiple delays that put it on February 24, 28 and more recently March 3.

If delayed, it's unknown why Verizon would push the phone back to more than two months after it was first on display at CES in Las Vegas. The Thunderbolt is known to have simlutaneous voice and data, but the absence of public support for the trick makes it an unlikely obstacle. Network performance on LTE and battery life are more likely but uncertain candidates.

Simultaneously, a separate leak has put the Trophy on Verizon in late March. The Windows Phone 7 device would be the same as the version shipped to Europe in the fall but, apart from the switch to CDMA, would mostly improve through software. WinRumors heard would be one of the first known phones to ship with the NoDo update for copy-and-paste text instead of getting it over the air.

The schedule would be supported by Sprint's plans for the Arrive, which is also due in late March. NoDo is believed necessary for CDMA phone support.

Microsoft had deliberately put aside CDMA support for the original WP7 launch to concentrate on getting GSM ready. Launches had been expected as soon as January but are now thought to have been pushed back both by hardware design issues and carrier worries.
