Samsung Captivate's Android 2.2 update goes live

updated 03:50 pm EST, Thu February 24, 2011

Samsung Captivate update released, detailed

As promised, a Samsung FAQ page reveals that the Android 2.2 software update for the Samsung Captivate has now gone live. The page is a very detailed guide on how to perform the changeover. The update, called KB1, brings with it a new interface, dedicated shortcuts for Phone, Application, Contacts and Messaging on the home screen.

Security is improved with numeric or alpha-numeric password options, the ability to remotely wipe the device when lost or stolen and easier auto-discovery options when syncing with an Exchange account.

The browser gets a speed boost from the V8 engine, and pages with a lot of Java script content load faster. The Dalvik just-in-time compliler core to Android's engine enhances performance two- to fivefold when crunching CPU-heavy code. Flash Player 10.1 is also now supported, and apps can be stored on and run from SD cards.

Samsung Captive sure does make sense, held captive to Adobe and it's Flash virus.
