Samsung, AT&T to ship Android 2.2 for Captivate
The Galaxy S support team has used Twitter to announce that the Samsung Captivate on AT&T will get the long-awaited upgrade to Android 2.2 on Thursday. The update was shown on an AT&T support page earlier this month. The updates will begin to be sent out over the air starting on Thursday, but not all handsets will get it at once, as it could take several days.
Android 2.2 brings much deeper support for voice commands as well as better app updating, the option of moving apps to or from SD cards and an overall speed-up. Many apps, including Twitter and numerous of Google's own, either require Android 2.2 or get their full feature sets with the newer release.
The phone is much like other Galaxy S devices and has a four-inch Super AMOLED display, a 1GHz Hummingbird CPU and a five-megapixel camera capable of capturing 720p videos. There is also Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.0 and 16GB of storage in addition to a microSDHC card slot.
