Dell outs redesigned XPS 15, 17 notebooks

Dell has just announced changes to its XPS notebooks, including the XPS 15 and XPS 17. The exteriors have been freshened up and now house Intel's Huron River mainboards and Sandy Bridge-era dual- and quad-core processors paired with NVIDIA graphics. A newly available XPS 17 supports 3DTV natively, including 3D Blu-ray discs. The regular version of this notebook has NVIDIA's Optimus live graphics switching to improve battery life.

Screens scale up to 1080p resolutions. Systems with the quad Core i7 can stream the same resolution over WiDi. The XPS 15 can be had with a 2GB NVIDIA GT 540M graphics processor, while the XPS 17 is offered with a 3GB GeForce 555M.

The basic XPS 15 weighs nearly 6lbs with a six-cell battery, the XPS 17 at 7.4lb with the same amount of cells. USB 3.0 ports and a Skype HD-certified camera are other new features of the notebooks.

The XPS 15 starts at $1,050 while prices for the larger XPS 17 begin at $900.
