Intel still optimistic MeeGo will survive Nokia exit

Intel says MeeGo has future despite Nokia deal

Chipmaker Intel's CEO Paul Otellini recently said the MeeGo mobile operating system developed in conjunction with Nokia remains to have a bright future, despite its recent announcement to produce Windows Phone 7-powered handsets. "I don't see that Nokia changing its strategy changes the industry strategy," Otellini said in an interview at Mobile World Congress. Carriers were still looking for an "open, operator-friendly" OS, he said.

MeeGo will come to tablets later in 2011 and will also find its way onto one Nokia handset as well as embedded devices in vehicles.

Nokia, which was Intel's main partner in developing the software, said last week it will switch to Windows Phone 7 as its primary software for smartphones. It will stay onboard to ship one MeeGo handset this year in order to learn about the platform, and afterwards devoting the MeeGo team members and product elements to Windows Phone 7 and other future platforms.

Smartphones with scaled-down Intel Atom chips, based on the Medfield platform, will be released later this year, Otellini also said at the conference.

    wrong OS

Umm, wouldn't that be Android? I think that the operators have already found what they were looking for - Android is already everywhere.
