Samsung 9 Series appears in FCC filing

Samsung's 9 Series notebook got closer to its US launch late Friday with a listing for tests at the FCC. Broadcom put the ultrathin PC testing for its wireless technology. The listing didn't divulge specific features beyond the 900X3A badge for the model being put through approval.

The system's highlight is an 0.62-inch thickness and a three-pound weight that could see it thinner than Apple's MacBook Air, which shares its 13-inch display. It's only known so far to be shipping in a single configuration that center on a 1.4GHz Core i5, 4GB of RAM and a 128GB SSD, albeit including WiMAX for getting 4G access through Clear or Sprint.

Samsung had promised the 9 Series would ship to the US in February for $1,599, above a 13-inch MacBook Air's $1,299 price but with a newer processor, more memory and the 4G modem helping to justify the premium. [via Wireless Goodness]
