EP-100 earphones protect hearing, regulate volume

No battery required, regulates volume above 85dB

It's not just the volume level of some personal headphones that creates long-term hearing damage, its the distortion and sound pressure as well. Audio company dB Logic has introduced the EP-100 earphones for teens and adults that uses advanced circuitry to regulate volume, but maintain the integrity of the sound in a virtually transparent way. By getting cleaner sound without excessive volume, there is less need for listeners to expose themselves to excessive sound pressure levels, thus protecting their hearing while being able to listen longer.

The headphones control volume and pressure without the need for a battery-powered processor as found in some volume-limiting earphones. The EP-100s carry the same specifications as most other iPod-style earphones -- 20/20K dynamic range, 9mm speaker diameter, available in an array of colors -- and look the same as most normal earphones, but with the added advantage of dB Logic's SPL2 technology that adjusts volumes above 85 decibels discreetly while maintaining sonic integrity.

According to the American Academy of Audiology, approximately 12 percent of all young people ages 6-19 have already experienced some noise-induced hearing loss. When surveying teenagers only, the figure rises to 20 percent.

The EP-100 earphones from dB Logic are priced at $30 and are available for order now from the company's website [site not updated, product is shipping now] or through They are available in Quick Silver, Big Apple Red, Barracuda Blue, Valentine Pink, Shamrock Green and Tiger Orange.
