Notion Ink Adam second round orders open

Will be skipping Gingerbread for Honeycomb

Notion Ink has begun taking its second round of orders for its Adam tablet. At this stage, orders are open to customers who pre-registered for the second batch of tablets after the first allotment sold out. According to Notion Ink, the number of emails that it is sending out inviting customers to place their order is "huge", although it did not take the opportunity to specify what that translated to in numbers. CEO Rohan Shravan also added that Notion Ink will skip Gingerbread for the tablet optimized Honeycomb OS when the Adam gets its next major software upgrade.

After suffering some setbacks with its initial launch, and with the impending arrival of tablets from more recognized manufacturers, it will be interesting to see how Notion Ink fares. The Adam was one of the first tablets to market with the NVIDIA ARM-based Tegra 2 processor, and is also relatively unique in offering the choice of an outdoor-friendly Pixel Qi display.

Its heavily customized Eden user interface, which sits atop Android 2.2 (Froyo), is also a key product differentiator. However, one of its major drawbacks is that it currently does not support the Android Market. The apparent rationale behind this decision is that the Android Market only offers smartphone apps at present. [via Slashgear]
