HTC to outsource Flyer tablet production to Pegatron

HTC mulling outsourcing tablet build to Pegatron

The manufacturing of an upcoming HTC tablet, thus far dubbed Flyer, is expected to be outsourced to Pegatron, a Chinese daily reported on Wednesday. This would mark a first for HTC, which has produced all of its products in house to date. The seven-inch tablet will sport a touchscreen and, despite a native tablet OS being available, Android 2.3.

This would help the electronics maker increase flexibility of its production schedule, though isn't yet confirmed. Pegatron is an ASUS subsidiary and manufactures its tablets and notebooks.

The Flyer is expected to be the lower end of two HTC tablets, with the Scribe being its higher end counterpart. It may use a regular, single-core Snapdragon instead of a dual-core Tegra 2, and thus wouldn't have the power to drive Android 3.0.
