Ben Heck converts Sega CDX to a handheld

Gadget builder and do-it-yourself crafter Ben Heckendorn has now created a portable Sega CDX console from the 1990s in the latest episode of the Ben Heck Show. The CD-based home gaming console was ripped apart for its guts and those were then installed into a newly fabricated case. Heck used an OLED screen and built a controller into the case as well.

Even planning the build out on was fairly time-consuming. A step-up regulator was also used to power up the CD drive, which requires 12 volts.

Heck is successfully playing some of the very first full-motion video console games like Snatcher and Lunar: The Silver Star on his latest creation. He hasn't said if he will provide instructions to recreate the device.
