Some Verizon iPhone shipments halting in Memphis

updated 11:40 am EST, Fri February 4, 2011

Source provides unconfirmed sales numbers

Some Verizon iPhone shipments are becoming stuck in Memphis, Tennessee, buyers say. Flights are reportedly being delayed or canceled, postponing deliveries that would normally arrive today until Monday. FedEx notes that the Memphis hub has been impacted by "severe winter weather conditions," causing "service delays and disruptions."

Other iPhones shipping out via UPS, however, are said to be passing through Memphis without any problems. A source for 9to5Mac meanwhile claims to have some early pre-order numbers; these include a total of about 250,000 units, 100,000 of which were sold by noon on Thursday. The numbers are unconfirmed, particularly as Verizon itself has kept quiet on exact figures.

The carrier nevertheless claims to have generated its best-ever first-day sales for a phone. Demand for a Verizon iPhone model is thought to be pent-up, not only from people frustrated with the AT&T network, but also from people who have been unable to get AT&T and/or its 3G service in their area. Still others have been waiting because of a preference for Verizon.

    Probably true

My girlfriend had her new Vibrant from TMO hung up there for just a day earlier this week.

It's in Louisville now- will be delivered Monday.
I won't miss AT&T with their broken promises (tethering)
    Their crappy coverage.
    Their ridiculous text charges.
And- how long did I have to suffer without SMS photos?
They deserve to lose all their iphone business.
I'd have moved to Sprint in a heartbeat for speed- but, they also blew it when I wanted to leave- ripping me off for $400 in cancellation fees- even though I'd been a long term customer- and wanted to keep my second line with them- no go.
Finally- Verizon is going to get my business- with my girlfriends plan- it will actually cut my bill in almost half.

Idiot's did the same thing with my Apple remote, delayed my overnight shipping. USPS should just monopolize the package industry too, get these scumwads (UPS/FedEx) out of business. USPS is the fastest and most amazing shipping service period. A shame AT&T is the only one using them.
