LG Optimus 3D confirmed for Mobile World Congress

LG in a brief note confirmed that the Optimus 3D was coming to Mobile World Congress. The device is billed as the first 3D smartphone and tries to overcome the lack of content by creating its own ecosystem. It touts its own dual back cameras to record 3D photos and videos as well as a glasses-free 3D LCD for watching the very same content.

Little else was made public, but it would have a 3D-capable HDMI 1.4 output and DLNA media sharing to reach hardware on the local network. Earlier leaks have supported the belief that it would be powered by NVIDIA's Tegra 2 and carry a 4.3-inch display, along with possibly front-facing camera. An example seen early was running Android 2.2. It's not so far known when any of LG's Tegra 2 devices will get 2.3.

LG is holding a special event on February 14 at MWC to unveil the Optimus 3D, but suspicions have been fueled that it might come to Sprint first, probably under a different name. Release timing is still to be guessed at and might not see it show for weeks.
