MWSF: iPhone cases, docks and other gear

updated 07:20 pm EST, Sat January 29, 2011

Variety of new products showcased this week

iPhone products took center stage at Macworld Expo 2010, but the category has taken a back seat to iPad accessories for the latest show. Nonetheless, plenty of companies are still making cases and other interesting gear for Apple's smartphone. MacNN took a closer look at many of the latest products that were on display this week in San Francisco.

Several companies, including L5, showed off products designed to turn an iPhone into an infrared remote. The concept is not new, but L5 seems to have paired the IR dongle with an attractive app that supports user-configured layouts for any equipment.

As expected, quite a few companies have continued to expand their iPhone case offerings. The show included everything from Sharpie-customizable cardboard cases to crystal-studded designs. Many accessories integrate batteries, including Kensington's PowerLift dock. Rokform brought several aluminum cases and stands, which reminded us of Oakley's distinct style.

For those who easily lose their phones, Bringrr has produced a cigarette-lighter accessory that detects when a phone is present. If the user turns on their vehicle without the phone present -- or if it is powered off, since requires Bluetooth -- the dongle turns from blue to red and provides an audible alarm.

iFusion was showing off an iPhone dock that paris via Bluetooth and allows users to talk on a landline-style corded phone. Other dock accessories include the GuitarJack, a guitar input that integrates a second input for a mic.

Most of the products are already available or shipping soon.
