Surface becomes world's largest remote control

The Microsoft Surface has had a special application written by an enthusiast so that it can act as a remote control for Parrot's AR. Drone. The AR. Drone model quadricopter was developed in the first instance for remote control by Apple's iPod touch, iPhone or iPad. In this instance, the Microsoft's Surface has taken on the mantle as the world's largest touchscreen remote control as the video embedded below demonstrates.

The Parrot AR. Drone has two integrated cameras for streaming live images to the screen of the device controlling it. The front camera can also be used for augmented reality that allows two quadricopters to dogfight while appearing to either controller as a virtual monster or robot, for example.

The AR. Drone retails for $299. The Microsoft Surface, which was recently refreshed, is retailing from $7,600, which also puts it in the running for the title of world's most expensive remote control. [via Engadget]
