Intel Emcrest SSDs may hit 450MB per second

Intel 510 SSDs may mark huge update

A possible leak this week may have confirmed that Intel is ramping up a very high performance SSD for the near future. The Intel 510, also known by its Emcrest codename, would hit speeds of 450MB per second for peak reads and 300MB per second for writes. The performance slipped to Fudzilla would be nearly double the performance of Intel's best drive line, the X25-E, which reaches 250MB and 170MB per second in each area.

The drives would still be built on a 34 nanometer manufacturing process but would get SATA III support to handle the extra bandwidth. They would be some of the first mainstream SSDs to push the limits of SATA II.

Capacity would be just as much of a change as the low end would now have more storage than the previous high end. A 120GB edition of the 510 would cost just $279, or less than half the price of the 64GB original. A 250GB flagship would cost the same or less at $579. Both drives would be available in February.
