Flip Video camera with Wi-Fi pops up at FCC

updated 09:35 pm EST, Thu January 27, 2011

Flip Video camcorders to get Wi-Fi

An FCC filing published today has confirmed that Cisco is developing a Wi-Fi version of its Flip Video cameras. The M3260 has been tested using 802.11n Wi-Fi along with the requisite HDMI and USB connectors. The purpose of the wireless isn't clear, but it would likely be used to share video on a local network and possibly to upload video directly to YouTube or Facebook.

No clues exist in the filing as to what the camera will be like outside of the Wi-Fi, nor when it would ship. Cisco may keep it relatively inexpensive since even the leading Ultra HD 8GB costs no more than $200. Modern flips already have 720p60 video, image stabilization and a proprietary FlipPort for expansion. [via Wireless Goodness]
