Ricoh CX5 doubles autofocus speeds of CX4

Ricoh's new CX5 point and shoot camera gets a 10-megapixel sensor along with a 10.7x, 28-300mm zoom lens. Its centerpiece is a new, ultra-fast autofocus speed up to just two-tenths of a second thanks to a hybrid autofocus system. The system uses a passive distance sensor along with usual contrast AF and can lock on in about half the time of the previous CX4 shooter.

The camera also sports a Super-resolution setting and a Super-resolution Zoom that doubles the maximum focal length to the equivalent of 600mm while promising minimal image degradation from pixel scaling. New scene modes with earlier cameras include Cooking, Fireworks and Continuous Golf Swing. Users frame and view their shots using the the-inch, 920,000-pixel LCD. The camera can record 720p HD movies as well.

When the camera arrives at the end of February in the UK, it will be available in black, silver, and pink and cost the equivalent of $413 (260). It's expected to come Stateside at around the same time with a slightly lower price. [via PhotographyBlog]
