Google unhappy with Android Market app sales

Google's 2011 roadmap will include changes to the Android Market, as the Android platform manager Eric Chu revealed at the Inside Social Apps conference in San Francisco on Tuesday. This is being spurred by the slow rates of purchase for the apps, something Google is vocally "not happy" about. While most specifics weren't revealed, Chu revealed some major changes.

Chief among them is an in-app payment system that will let users make purchases within an app, as in a virtual market. It will arrive before winter's end.
Carrier billing will also arrive at providers other than AT&T and around the world. Users are said to value such a feature, making the time-consuming and expensive process of setting it up worthwhile, Chu said.

A team that seeks and removes apps that violate the terms of service of the Android Market will remain and get more funds, while Google will revise the ranking program to ease the app discovery process for users.

Google will also open the phone's address book to developers, helping to develop social apps that will aggregate contacts from multiple sources.

The HTML5 web standard will also figure heavily into the creation of new apps.
Exactly how much of an impact these changes have on sales in the Android Market, and what other ones Google has in store, remains to be seen. [via Forbes]
